Always wanted to create your own GuerrillaReads video but weren’t sure how to get started?
Join us on Saturday, March 24 in Los Angeles for a GuerrillaReads video walk. You’ll get to meet GR founders Bronwyn Mauldin and Cheryl Klein as well as other writers, explore the Highland Park neighborhood and shoot your own video.
Here’s the 411:
What’s the plan, Stan?
We’ll meet up at 11 a.m. at Galco’s on York Boulevard and walk together for about a mile to Cafe de Leche. Click for a route map. Along the way, you’ll look for a good spot for your video, and we’ll pair up to shoot them as we go along.
What should I bring?
- A prepared reading from your work. About five minutes plus a brief intro is a good length.
- Some kind of device that shoots video – we’re big fans of simple internet-ready video cameras like the Flip and Kodak Zi8 or even your smartphone
- If your camera takes an external mic and you have one, bring it along too. We’ll be shooting outdoors on a noisy, busy street.
What is a GuerrillaReads video, anyway?
It’s a reading of a literary work that takes place out in the real world, not in the rarified atmosphere of your local bookstore, library, conference facility or sports arena. Guerrilla readings take literature to places where literature is not expected. That’s what you’ll find on this website.
For example, check out our very first video of Cheryl Klein reading in Highland Park. (Sadly, the beautiful mural behind her is gone now.)
Sounds cool. What should I do next?
If you’re planning to join us – and we hope you do – let us know in the comments or via email. You can send any questions to the same places.
